Flash videos and slideshows are great media to enhance your WordPress blog posts. This tutorial shows you steps to add flash files (.swf) to a WordPress blog.
Step 1. Create Flash Slideshow for WordPress
You can use Adobe Flash CS Professional to create flash shows. If you do not want to go through the learning curve, you may use Socusoft Flash Slideshow Maker. It is a template based flash slideshow program. Basically what you need to do in order to create professional flash files are importing photos to the program, selecting a flash template, then publish.
Step 2. Upload Flash to the Web
You can upload Flash files (.swf) to your web hosting through FTP.
Step 3. Insert Flash object Embed Code into WordPress Blog Post.
Log in your WordPress Admin Panel, open the blog post, switch from “Visual” to “HTML” mode, input Flash embed code anywhere in your blog post.
For your reference, here is a sample Flash object embed code:
<object classid=”clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000″ codebase=”http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0″ width=”400” height=”300” id=”tech” align=”middle”><param name=”allowScriptAccess” value=”sameDomain” />
<param name=”movie” value=”http://convert-dvd-ipad.com/img/media/slideshow.swf“/>
<param name=”quality” value=”high” />
<embed src=”http://convert-dvd-ipad.com/img/media/slideshow.swf” quality=”high” width=”400” height=”300” name=”tech” align=”middle” allowScriptAccess=”sameDomain” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” pluginspage=”http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer” />
</object>
What if my blog is hosted with WordPress.com?
Since WordPress.com does not support javascript, flash, iframes, forms or relative tags due to security concerns. To add flash files (.swf) to a wordpress blog you will need:
- Upload Flash to a third party album hosting service such as SkyAlbum.com;
- Add the uploaded Flash to a third party video player such as Vodpod. You will then get the WordPress compatible Flash embed code.
For more info, see http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/vodpod/ - Paste the new WordPress compatible Flash embed code into blog posts.

You can now play Flash slideshows on WordPress blog.
