How to Convert DVD to iPod on Windows

We have talked about how to convert DVD to iPod on Mac, therefore, this article will focus on how to achieve this on Windows. Since there are so many video converters, I would like to take DVD to iPad Converter as an example. The whole article contains five steps.
1. Install DVD to iPad Converter
Download Website: http://convert-dvd-ipad.com/download.php

2. Add DVD

Run Socusoft DVD to iPad Converter, click “Open DVD” button to import the DVD. You also can preview the video in the built-in mini player.

3. Customize output video parameters
(1)Choose the output format

Click ”Profile” box, choose the appropriate item in the “Apple iPod” list.
(2)Do some basic edition

(3)Choose the output file folder
Click the “Options” button to reset the output file folder for personal preference.

4. Start to convert
Click “Start Encode” button to start the DVD to iPod conversion.

After the conversion is completed absolutely, click the “Folder” button to find them. Then you can sync the converted DVD to iPod with iTunes.

Rip DVD to iPad iPhone iPod Touch With HandBrake

Step 1. Get HandBrake from its official site.

HandBrake is an open source, GPL-licensed, multiplatform, multithreaded video transcoder. The current version is 0.9.5, available for Mac OS X, Linux and Windows from the HandBrake official website.

Step 2. Insert a DVD and start HandBrake

Step 3. Click the “Presets” menu and pick the preset that suits your needs the best.

You can find presets such as Universal, iPod, iPhone & iPod Touch, iPhone 4, iPad, AppleTV, AppleTV 2, Animation, Film, Television, PSP, PS3, Xbox 360, etc. These presets are optimized encoding settings for specific devices on which you want to play the videos.

Although you can fine-tune each aspect of the encoding, the handy presets makes it much easier.

Step 4. Click the “Encode Video” button ( on Windows) or Start button (on Mac) and wait for HandBrake rips the DVD to target video format.

Step 5. Import the ripped DVD movie into iTunes and sync to your iPad/ iPod Touch/iPhone, etc.

Tips:

  1. With HandBrake, you can tweak settings such as Deinterlacing, Audio, Subtitles, metadata, etc.
  2. You cannot trim the DVD movie to segments. It will convert the whole DVD to a single video which could waste you a lot of time if you only need to convert part of the movie.
  3. It cannot extract sound tracks from DVD as audio files.
  4. There are some options that can help you reduce size of ripped video files, for instance, you can go to the Video tab, then set Target size for the final output video, reduce average bitrate or reduce video quality by a percentage. Since you are going to watch the ripped DVD movies on portable players with much smaller screens, you probably do not really need anything with super high quality.

How to Convert DVD to iPod Touch/Nano/Classic on Mac

Step 1. Load DVD to the iPod video Converter.
