How to Make custom iPhone ringtones on iTunes for FREE?
Tired of your plain old ringtones for your iPhone? This guide will walk you through the steps to make FREE ringtones for iPhone with your own music on iTunes. This music to ringtones for iPhone guide works on both Mac and Windows PCs.
Step 1. Run iTunes.
Step 2. Right click on the song you like to turn into an iPhone ringtone, select “Get Info” from the jump down menu list. Click the “Options” tab and go to trim the music to less than 30 seconds, you can input the music start/stop time into the “Start Time” and “Stop Time” boxes. Click “OK” when you’re ready.
Please note if the music is longer than 30 seconds, iTunes will not recognize it as a ringtone.
Step 3. Right click on the song again and select “Create ACC Version” from its jump down menu list. iTunes then automatically extracts the portion of song you have selected in the previous step.
Step 4. Right-click on the song and select “Show in Finder” if you are on Mac; For Windows user, please choose “Show in Windows Explorer” instead.
Step 5. locate the song file you just created, change the file extension from “.m4a” to “.m4r”.
Step 6. Go back to Finder and double-click on the ringtone file (.m4r) you have just changed its file extension in last step. The ringtone will automatically add it to iTunes’ ringtone library.
Step 7. Connect your iPhone and sync your FREE custom ringtones to iPhone.
Please note, when the ACC version has been created, you can also drag the newly converted ringtone to your desktop from iTunes, or some other folder to rename it file extension and then add it back to your iTunes library under the ringtones section. Then follow the rest of the steps to sync your phone with iTunes.
